Excellent, however I believe without being able to prove it, that it creates a strong magnetic field around it. My external speakers made a humm. eventually I used it with a different computer.
I bought this product after reading many favorable reviews here. I, of course, plugged in the AC adapter thinking that it would solve the issue. The hub port is sturdy and low-profile. However, and it's a big however, IT WON'T RECHARGE MY IPHONE. Nada. This deficiency is utterly unacceptable.I'm returning this unit and looking for another one.
Previous hubs have had issues with certain devices (the scanner most notably). Also the hub barely gets warm.- Balanced: The hub sits firmly on the edge of my desk without tipping or moving around where other hubs would tip over if more than say 4-5 connectors were attached.- Compatible: I have a broad range of devices: External DVD burner, external SATA drive enclosures, document scanner, joysticks, flash drives, dongal keys, compact flash readers, etc.
I don't think there is such a thing as "the best USB hub" because so far all of them that I've tried seem to fail after about 2 years for one reason or another. I've owned USB hubs from various manufacturers (Belkin and CyberPower were the previous two).
This hub also has a 3A power supply so the hub provides plenty of juice for self-powered devices. My initial reaction to this hub is favorable for these reasons:- Solid connections: Perhaps a little too solid (inserting the USB connectors required pushing a little more than I thought should be necessary, but its definitely a solid connection).- Good power: The power plug on a previous hub was poorly designed and easily dislodged.
This one is solid. All of them work flawlessly.
I use the hub w/a Mac laptop.So overall, I'm pretty happy with this one and will buy another one without hesitation.
Just be sure to check your devices first before purchasing this. This product works as advertised. Power output is as advertised. I was surprised to find that my 300GB Western Digital Passport requires more juice, so I still have to use my computer's port for it. Highly recommended.
Ensure that your USB devices will not consume more power than this USB hub can deliver. I was wrong. I finally linked a myriad of different problems to this product. Unfortunately, I assumed that since this product was powered, that it would, in fact, deliver sufficient power to all USB components available in the market. It is my recommendation that consumers purchase another USB hub. It is better to be safe than sorry by experimenting with a product whose ultimate functionality may be in question.
